New Blog - New Year - New Goals

I finally scratched the itch that's been nagging me over the past year and re-located and revamped my little blog! I'm kind of in love with how it all turned out :) ... I would have done this a long time ago, but it took me a little while to figure out how to import the old blog from tumblr over here to blogger, and then when the technical part got hard uh, I got lazy. I absolutely didn't want to lose any of the last two year's posts; Jonathan says that they're practically our own little online journal, which is so accurate considering I started it shortly after we got married. It's been an amazingly fun way to document our first few years of marriage together - both the big things that we would obviously never forget, and the small, insignificant parts of life that we don't want to ever forget. So today, I'm going to talk about both. First, the small:

This pup owns our hearts, hands down. This week we discovered that if both of us are home (some Fridays Jonathan doesn't have class until 6pm), and if I'm working in the living room and Jonathan is studying in the bedroom, Jude will forgo couch sleeping for the crate in between the two rooms. He just doesn't want to be too far away from either of us! I can even try to make him come and sit on the couch (which he'll do for a few minutes), but then he always heads back to where he can keep an eye on us both, in the cold, uncomfortable crate.  Gosh I love that pup.

Now, the large:
Over the past year, date nights have becoming embarrassingly few and far between for Jonathan and I. We both really desire to put our marriage first, but can be easily caught up in the busyness and stressfulness of our daily life here in DC and seem to constantly put our needs on the back burner. This sounds kind of horrible (which I guess in actuality it kind of is!), but don't worry, we do still like each other quite a bit :) Regardless of that, we have seen the toll it's taken on our marriage and we are really striving to make good time together a real focus this year. I say "good time" purposefully, because we are often "together" at the house, but everyone knows when you're not spending time together with intentionality, it's just not the same. This year love - we live intentionally :)

So, to start the new year off right (ok, maybe a week or two late), we headed out to finally check out the Corcoran Museum. This has been on my list since we moved DC, and yet in the 1.5 years we've lived here, (embarrassingly) this was our first time visiting. Jonathan surprised me with art and dinner on a Saturday, and I couldn't have been more thrilled :) Here are a few photos from our Saturday date:

I'm so happy we got to see the 30 Americans Exhibit before it leaves DC in February. It was such an incredible show and I encourage anyone and everyone who can possibly get to it to make it a priority and GO. My favorite pieces were definitely the lithographs of wigs printed on felt (amazing) and the two photographs from the above. Incredible show - gosh, I miss seeing great exhibits. Must.Go.To.More.This.Year.

Loved experiencing this with you love - can't wait to see what 2012 brings our little family. xoxo

p.s. It's oscar season and we've got WAY too many oscar noms to go see before the big day. Today we saw The Descendants and balled our eyes out (ok, maybe that was just me) - SO GOOD. Next on deck - I think maybe My Week With Marylin or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Can't wait :)

sunday morning wake up calls...

                                                    ….are my favorite.

a brisk winter walk to church in barracks row + a shared Boxcar Brunch in Eastern Market made for a really wonderful start to the Mayo Family Sunday (oh, and our wake up call too of course…).

Last Weekend. This Weekend

Last weekend - my brother was in town for a conference (he was on one of the panels) held at the National Harbor in MD. He was super busy with the conference, but we still found time to take him out to brunch, show him our little home, and explore the National Harbor (something that’s been on our list since we moved here). All in all, it was a really nice visit and we look forward to many more!

The National Harbor is really quite beautiful. This Christmas, Jonathan and mom splurged on me and got me an amazing new lens for my digital camera - it was the perfect place to play around with it a little. So far, I LOVE it.

This weekend: Jude says to please get off the computer and let’s do something fun. Not going to be that easy to do as Jonathan has a 6,000 page paper to write (ok ok, it’s actually only a 6,000 word paper, but after I hear the word 6,000 - it pretty much seems the same to me). Judebear, it looks like it’s just me and you buddy - let’s go stock up on treats.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Highlights

How can it possibly already be January and only two days before our break from law school is over? December sure went by in a flash for us Mayos. I love giving people the run down:
First, law exams (yuck). Second, a weekend trip to NYC for Jonathan’s Mom’s birthday. One day after that - Charlottesville, VA for a three day OLAS retreat. Five days after that - a 12 hour drive home to Athens, GA for Christmas. Next, straight down to Savannah for a second Christmas and New Years with the Mayo fam. Then, our 12 hour drive back to DC for a week of work and rest. Now, a brand new semester begins on Monday.
That, in a nutshell, was our entire December holiday craziness. Because it would be ENTIRELY too much to ever write about - here are a few photo highlights:

Happy Birthday Mama Mayo!

A Floyd Family Tradition: the Christmas puzzle from Aunt Jan - officially completed (sans one chewed up weimaraner piece)

3 generations of women + the list (yikes)

Yes, those are chickens and yes, you DO want to hear that story sometime.
